Civil Engineer / Coastal / Water Resources Engineer
BayLand is seeking an entry-level Civil / Coastal / Water Resources Engineer with 0 to 2 years of experience to join our team in support of a growing workload in marine infrastructure and coastal restoration projects. The work will focus on surveying, permitting, design, and construction management for a variety of water access facility, boating infrastructure, shoreline protection, habitat creation, coastal resiliency, dredging, and dredged material management projects.
The successful candidate will work directly for Professional Engineers and Project Managers and will provide engineering support to the design team in both field and office assignments. Tasks assigned to this position are selected to rapidly expand engineering experience and establish a solid foundation for becoming a Professional Engineer. A successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they: are an organized and motivated individual with strong communication skills; possess an eye for detail; can work collaboratively with other team members; and can become responsible for independently completing assigned engineering tasks with minimal oversight.
The ideal candidate should be familiar with AutoCAD Civil 3D and able to quickly become proficient in preparing civil/site designs and construction documents. The ideal candidate would also have exposure in analysis of technical field work such as survey processing or geotechnical investigations. Coursework in AutoCAD Civil 3D and surveying will be considered relevant experience.

Minimum Qualifications

B.S. in Civil, Coastal, or Water Resources Engineering from an accredited college or university

Proficient with Microsoft Office

Environmental Scientist
BayLand Consultants & Designers, Inc. (BayLand) is seeking an experienced Environmental Scientist with 5 to 8 years of relevant experience to join our team in support of a growing workload of water resource and ecological restoration projects. The work will focus on conducting Natural Resource Inventories/Forest Stand Delineations (NRIs/FSDs) and preparing and obtaining environmental permits. Responsibilities include wetland delineations in accordance with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) procedures, plant community surveys and descriptions, coordination with resource protection agencies including the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), Critical Area Commission (CAC), Maryland Historical Trust (MHT), US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), planting/landscape plan formulation, preparation of a diverse range of deliverables using ArcGIS and AutoCAD; preparation of high quality graphics for project reports; and environmental planning and permitting.
The successful candidate will work directly with Project Scientists, Professional Engineers and Project Managers and must be an organized and motivated individual with strong technical writing capabilities and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with other team members. The ideal candidate would have experience in wetland delineation, forest stand delineation, and plant identification in the Mid-Atlantic region as well as a strong understanding of soils and soil processes. The ideal candidate would also have experience with wetland permitting for stream and ecological restoration, coastal restoration, and stormwater management projects.

Minimum Qualifications

B.S. Environmental or Natural Resource Sciences

5 – 8 years relevant working experience

Experience and ability to execute plant community surveys, wetland and forest stand delineations and related reports independently

Permitting experience on stream and ecological restoration, living shoreline and/or stormwater management projects

Ability to service multiple projects and multiple in-house technical personnel

Ability to effectively communicate with clients, regulators, public officials and other team members

Experience in delivering high quality professional deliverables and exhibits

ArcMap/ArcGIS/ArcPro experience

AutoCAD experience, including Civil3D

Surveyor / Instrument Operator
BayLand Consultants & Designers, Inc. (BayLand) has an immediate opening for a Survey Technician / Instrument Operator to support our in-house survey capabilities for a growing and diverse workload of water resources projects. Experience with using Trimble Robotic Total Station, Trimble GPS, and Trimble Business Center are desired. High school diploma, community college courses/survey classes, and 0-1 year of experience preferred. Will train motivated individual. This position is offering a $1000 signing bonus to our newest team member!​

Responsibilities and Duties

Utilize various electronic and survey equipment to assist in determining location and elevations of various features

Perform construction stakeout
-
Cut and clear brush and trees from line of survey with machete, brush hook or chain saw

Carry instruments, field equipment, hammers, stakes, nails, etc.

Assist with hydrographic surveys

Keep survey crew vehicle supplied with equipment; clean and organize vehicle

Carry out instructions and tasks assigned by Party Chief
